The salient facade is tripartite with pilasters. The interior has a basilica plan with three naves. The marble ambo of 1229 on which the Swabian dynasty is represented is remarkable.

The cathedral, built at the end of the 11th century in Romanesque-Apulian style, stands on the site of a pre-existing church. Some architectural elements date back to the 12th century, including the ambo of 1229. Some elements of the ciborium, sculpted in 1222, will be reused to compose the pulpit of the seventeenth century.
