It was built in 1735 by the hieromonk Kyrillos Markopoulos. Later, his successors created a brotherhood and the church finally took its recent size. A great amount of water came out of the ground of the church and supplied the town of Lefkada and the farmlands of the area. For that reason, the area was named Megali Vrisi (Great Fount). Today, after a series of drillings, this water is collected at the aqueduct of Lefkada. The icons of the iconostasis inside the church and the icon of Zoodochos Pigi (Life Giver Fountain) is worth observing. This church belongs to the parish church “Genesio tis Theotokou” (Genesis of the Virgin) in Lefkada, otherwise called “Panagia Ksenon”, and celebrates on Friday of the Bright Week.
