In 1963 the present Papal Basilica was built, which in the crypt preserves the reliquary and the altar-frontal, dating back to the fourteenth century.
The first church dedicated to the Medici saints was built in the fourteenth century, near the current church of St. George, and appears to have been desecrated in 1676. The relics of the two saints, however, are attested since 1572. The cult was strengthened during the seventeenth century, also because of the numerous miracles.
