The Church of Agios Georgios Filikon is located just outside Zakynthos town, on the road to Bohali. The church was built in 1664 by the nobleman George Latino and was a refuge for the meetings of patriots and for taking the Great Oath. Here the prospective members of the Society of Friends were sworn in by the pastor Anthimos Argyropoulos. The church of Saint Georgios and the surrounding area had over the years passed to the Komi family. It was devastated by the earthquakes of 1893. In 1925, it belonged to the "Order of the Eastern Star" from the Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons. The earthquakes of 1953 that hit the island destroyed the church again and in 1955 it became the first building of the island which was constructed by the 701st Engineer Battalion of the Greek army. According to a painting kept in the Museum of Solomos and Eminent People of Zakynthos, Solomos, the Plapoutos siblings, Kolokotronis, Fotomaras, Nikitaras, members of the Petimezas family, Romas, Dragonas, and Stefanou were sworn in the temple.
