The Catholic Church of Saint Nicholas is located on the main pedestrian street of Argostoli. It is dedicated to the patron saint of sailors Saint Nicholas and the name that has prevailed is the Church of Saint Nicholas of the Latins. It hosts the Byzantine-style icon of the Virgin Mary of Preveza, which attracts many pilgrims, Catholic and Orthodox. The catholic community of Kefalonia has its roots in the era of Venetian rule which lasted almost ten centuries. Then the Franks and later on the English kept the Latin element of the island alive, and the community remained active to this day, although its population has decreased significantly. Saint Nicholas of the Latins is a place of prayer for all catholic visitors of the island.
