The church of the Representation of Virgin Mary belongs today to the parish church of Evangelistria. Built in 1720, it is a representative sample of Lefkadian church art. Its baroque iconostasis of exceptional height, the renaissance paintings on the urania and the walls, and thepost-Byzantine icons on the iconostasis, all painted by Lefkadian icon painters (Ioannis Roussos, Styl. Devaris, Dem. Kampisos – Mpelos, Spyr. Stampoglis, Spyr. and Ourania Gazis) are of special technique.The imposing representationof the Second Advent covers the top of the iconostasis. The “deposito”,a special icon case for the icon of the Entry of Theotokos (Mother of God) next to the Holy Podium is typical of the church. The traditional Heptanesian bell-tower is unique in the city of Lefkada. It was recently restored, afterthe earthquake of 2003. It celebrates on21 November.
