The Church of the Presentation of Virgin Mary is the Metropolitan Church of the island. The Church of the Virgin Mary in Linovrochia or ‘Maroulati’ as it is called was constructed in 1800. A small temple pre-existed and then was extended to meet growing needs of parishioners. It has a wonderful wooden-carved iconostasis of post-Byzantine style that dates from 1793 and was created by Metsovitis. Moreover, there is one imposing old Venetian bell tower dating from 1820, made of original stone from Niritos Mountain. The wall paintings of the Church are a hagiographical work of Byzantine magnificence. The steeple of the Church which was built around 1870 is also impressive.
