Gyri village

Gyri village is situated at an altitude of 550 m from the sea and is the village with the highest altitude on the island. It is in the center of the island and was built in the 15th century. What makes the village stand out is that the elements of Zakynthian architecture are still preserved. The village has a panoramic view and is rich in flora and fauna. Gyri village has an important tradition in stone processing that continues till today. The interior of the church of Prophet Elias, built after the earthquakes of 1953, is of particular interest because of the wood-carved iconostasis and the silvered oil painting of Prophet Elias.
