The ancient town of Lefkada is in the area of Kalligoni. The ancient town of Lefkada was called Nirikos and covered the areas Tsechlibous, Kalligoni, Kariotes, Ligia, of the municipality of Lefkada. This archaeological site encompasses all the findings of the walled settlement of Ancient Lefkada, dating from the Archaic till Roman times. Archaeological research has also brought to light two cemeteries, isolated monuments and scattered building remains such as graves, farmhouses and port infrastructure. The ancient town was abandoned around 1,300 and the constant earthquakes destroyed whatever had survived.
