Kontogennada is the village of Kontides, meaning the Generation of Kontides from the title of nobility which was probably given during the Venetian rule in Kefalonia. The village of Kontogennada is a traditional village in Kefalonia where the architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries is still preserved. It is one of the few villages that were not destroyed by the earthquakes of 1953. In the village, there is the small church of Saint Georgios of Kontogennada which dates from the 13th century, the church of Panagia dating from 1800, as well as the church of Saint Ioannis with an iconostasis of exceptional technique.
